Who we are
PetOS is operated by Stonetabs, Montréal, Québec, Canada. We are responsible for the data described here. Questions or requests: support@getpetos.app.
What we collect, and why
- Your pet photos (2 to 6), to work out your pet's colours, markings and shape. They are private: only the browser that uploaded them can see them, and they are never shown on share pages.
- Your pet's name and look (colours, shape settings and a small preview picture of the 3D pet). The share page for a pet shows its name and the 3D pet to anyone you give the link to.
- Your email address, only if you type it in to send your pet's link to yourself. We use it to send that link and, if the pet hasn't reached a Mac a day later, one reminder. Every reminder has an unsubscribe link.
- A device identifier and name from the Mac app, so your pets appear on the right Mac and each Mac gets one free trial.
- Payment details go to Stripe, not to us. We receive confirmation that you paid, the amount, and the email you gave Stripe for your receipt. We never see your card number.
- Usage events, described below.
- Your network address (IP), briefly, to stop abuse such as someone making hundreds of pets, and in server logs.
How your photos are processed
Your photos are sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model looks at them and returns a description: coat colour, markings, ear and tail type, likely breed. We turn that description into your pet. Anthropic processes the photos on our behalf under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to train its models on them. No new image of your pet is generated, and no person in the photos is identified.
We delete the original photos from our servers 30 days after your pet is made. Your pet itself is not affected.
Our own analytics
We record a small set of anonymous events (for example “landing page viewed”, “pet made”, “app opened”, “purchased”) with a random identifier, the kind of device, and the campaign tags on the link you arrived from. This runs on our own servers, is not shared with anyone, is not used to build a profile of you, and is how we know whether PetOS works. It does not depend on the advertising choice below.
Advertising measurement (Meta)
We do not use any advertising or third-party tracking technology on this site at the moment. If that changes, this section will say exactly what is shared, and visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland and Quebec will be asked first.
Cookies and browser storage
- Essential: one cookie (
petos_session) so the browser that made a pet can edit it, and a few values in your browser's storage to remember where you were in making a pet. - Our analytics: a random identifier and the campaign tags of your first visit, kept in your browser's storage.
- Bot check: when it is switched on, Cloudflare Turnstile runs on the page where you add photos, to tell people from bots.
Who processes data for us
- Anthropic (United States): analyses the photos.
- Stripe: takes payments and sends receipts.
- Resend (United States): delivers our emails.
- Cloudflare: the bot check, when enabled.
- Our hosting provider: runs the servers that store your pet, your photos and the events above.
Some of these are outside your country. Where the law requires it, transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
How long we keep things
- Original photos: 30 days after your pet is made, then deleted automatically.
- Your pet (name, look, preview): until you delete it, so it keeps working on your Mac.
- Your email address: until you delete your last pet, or ask us to remove it.
- Payment records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Backups: rolling copies kept for a short period; deleted data drops out of them as they are replaced.
Deleting your pet and photos
Open your pet's page in the browser where you made it and choose Delete at the bottom. That removes the photos, the preview, the pet's settings and its link to any Mac, straight away. If you no longer have that browser, write to support@getpetos.app and we'll do it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Write to support@getpetos.app. If you are in the EU or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
PetOS is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so here before it applies. See also our Terms and Refund policy.
